Mikas Illusions ReviewCanadian DJ, Producer Releases New CD on Progressive Grooves Records
Canadian Independent artist, producer and DJ Mikas releases his latest album, Illusions, filled with soothing trance beats and textured melodies.
As a DJ, Mikas has been mixing and spinning all over Canada since the beginning of the decade. During his time behind the turntable, he discovered his own particular sound of electronic music he describes as “progressive dance music” and a “fusion of acid house, disco and Pink Floyd”. Having quickly created a name in dance music circles while spinning on the circuit, Mikas gained support from some of the biggest names in the dance community including Tiestro, Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk. Mikas has also been invited for radio interviews in both the US and France in support of his melodic brand of dance music. In 2005 he created his own label, Progressive Grooves Records, and in just over two years it reached digital song sales of over 35, 000. It now counts a catalogue of over 65 titles. Mikas has had residencies in Whistler and his music has been featured in television shows. This summer the independent electronica musician released his latest album of progressive House, Illusions. Spirit EmotionWith Illusions, Mikas crosses big bouncy beats with rhythms and melodies that sound as enjoyable on the dancefloor as through headphones. Creating cadenced, moving pieces that could soundtrack films as well as Saturday night at the local club, the artist has achieved his goal of bridging the gap between pure club music and electronica with heart. Mikas drew inspiration for this record from the world around him, a world he sees as full of deception regarding human comfort and the need people have to achieve success and fill their lives with commodities. Illusions’ extended tracks, including “Tempermental” and “Echoes”, reflect the modern world’s urgency with pulsating beats, underscored by rich melody that ebbs and flows from tribal thumps to hushed rhythms, to create evolving moods and atmospheres. And while electronica, and especially House music, often receives the reputation as disposable and pointless beyond making people move on the dancefloor, Mikas has made a record of electronic beats and melodies that conversely instils a sense of calmness. TempermentalWhile making Illusions, Mikas desired to be different and make electronica with emotion. Its safe to say this record successfully lives up to his high expectations. Illusions contains rich textures that reveal more depth with each listen. It’s rare to find an electronica record crafted for reflection. Illusions is available now from on Progressive Grooves Records at all digital outlets. For more information on Mikas and to listen to snippets of tracks from his albums, visit his official website.
